The building has had little to no activity for over three years now. It appears vacant, but when we contacted the current owners, Peter Aytug and Rhea Stathatos of York Funding LLC, they informed us that the space is being leased for storage while development plans are under review. They gave us little additional information except to say that they’ve been trying to convert the property into residential units for the past few years.
The area clearly could use the development, especially as other real estate is rapidly evolving around it. Another luxury apartment complex is under active construction a short distance down the road, while Troy Towers are directly behind the property. While the surrounding neighborhood is turning into new residential real estate, the building seems set to become an eyesore. We were unable to ascertain from the developers exactly what is preventing this project from advancing.
Aytug and Stathatos have agreed to have a sit-down interview with us in 30 days if there is no comment from the county. We tried calling Township Planner Jill Hartmann as well as the mayor’s office to inquire about the status of the development but have not received a response.
